Maydencroft – Under Gardener

Since their establishment in 2007, our client has gone on to manage over 2500 hectares of woodland, maintain 350 major utility infrastructure sites, plant over half a million trees and provide its employees with over 1000 qualifications.Due to this continued success, our client is currently offering a rare and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, hardworking Under Gardener to join the team.

Job Role:You will be supporting the Head Gardener in the upkeep of the formal and informal gardens, grounds and roads across the extensive estate.The gardens are considered integral to the experience of the estate and the owner pays much attention to their upkeep therefore attention to detail is the key to the success of this role as everything must be maintained to the highest standard.

Job Type: This is a permanent LIVE OUT position

Hours: To be set by the jobholder and will vary depending on the season although typically based on 0700-1600 Monday to Friday as well as being on call for emergencies and to be at hand as and when required.

Salary: £19,000 – £22,500 per year DOE

The Estate, approximately 3 miles north of Potters Bar, is a privately owned single land holding that covers approximately 320 acres. In addition to the mansion it is made up of 4 houses, mixed native woodland of varying ages, a lake and extensive parkland. There are3 year oldfully irrigated formal gardens surrounding the mansion with extensive herbaceous borders and lawns, pleached trees, hedges and changes in levels. There is a recently restored Victorian ‘informal garden’ which is predominately made up of mature deciduous and coniferous specimen trees.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake turf and garden maintenance and landscape construction activities.
  • Apply pest management and plant nutrition programs.
  • Maintain all machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain plant stock.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience within the industry and good plant knowledge.
  • A professional and presentable demeanour with positive client liaison skills and the ability to manage in the Head Gardener’s absence.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Experience of horticultural machinery.
