This position is assigned to the Office of Financial Management & Administration, Procurement & Supply Division, Massena, NY. You will perform warehousing operations and database maintenance in support of the supply operations.

Responsibilities
The Materials Handler:

Performs extensive warehousing operations and database maintenance in support of the supply operations.
Coordinates incoming shipments and distribution of items and placement of materials within docking area.
Opens, inspects, counts, marks, unpacks, segregates and/or tags items.
Identifies, examines, classifies, accepts, and disposes of a wide variety of materials and property including electronic equipment, ship, mechanical, electrical, and motorized components, and assemblies.
Checks stock numbers and part numbers in supply catalogs to adequately identify property.
Identifies or routes items to maintenance activity for technical inspections when defects, excessive wear, corrosion, missing parts, or damage is discovered.
Assists laying out storage space, establishing item locations, determining organization and arrangement of stock, identifying high and low usage items.
The ideal candidate for this position has experience in warehouse operations, inventory, and date maintenance in a computerized system.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside in in close quarters in storage areas or bin aisles, ramps, or on platforms that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty and poorly lighted. Warehouse and storage areas may be hot in summer and cold in winter. May be subject to inclement weather when working outside checking, loading, or unloading material on/off trucks. Subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, scrapes, and broken bones in moving or handling material, from shifting loads, toppling stacks, forklift overturning or accidents with other moving equipment. Some exposure to hazardous materials may occur during shipping or storing of such materials Must wear proper personal protective equipment as required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Bends, stoops, and works in tiring and sometime uncomfortable positions. Climbs ladders to pull stock, stock shelves and bins. Uses sharp instrument to break open boxes. Lifts and carries objects up to SO lbs. independently and objects over SO lbs. with assistance. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods at a time.
