Accounts Assistant / Purchase Control

Our client designs, manufactures and installs different types of primary and secondary steelwork for clients around the UK.   The company has grown within the last few years and we are continually looking for aspiring individuals to join a dynamic team.

Because of this our client is currently looking for an Accounts / Purchase Control Assistant. This is an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business.

The Accounts Assistant reports in to the Accounts Manager.

Accounts / Purchase Control assistant role, duties and responsibilities

An Accounts Assistant will be expected to perform any of the following tasks:

  • Word skills – to produce purchase orders from requisitions raised
  • Matching invoices to purchase orders
  • Updating job cards with purchase orders and then with the invoice information when received
  • Excel spreadsheet skills – at least to an ability to use filters, adding information, setting up new sheets, putting formulae on sheets
  • Ability to spot discrepancies between invoices and purchase orders and dealing with suppliers and/or other staff members to solve the discrepancies via telephone or email
  • Ability to use Microsoft outlook, sending emails with attachments etc..

Person Specification

Typical qualities of a successful Accounts Assistant include:

  • Strong understanding of the workings of an office
  • Basic understanding of accountancy and book-keeping
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – to deal with customers and external contacts
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work to, and sometime implement own  processes
  • Good vocal skills and politeness due to being the first port of call for incoming phone calls to the business
